Before you start
For the grown-up- 1Tell your child what you're going to do together, roughly how long it takes, and that either of you can stop at any time.
- 2Think about a colour that reminds you of them, and why.
- 3If you'll make a real one afterwards, put the beads in a bowl so they don't roll away.
- 4Have tissues and a drink nearby. Tears and laughter are both welcome.

Why this helps
Something small to wear or hold can be a comfort in places like school, where grief can feel lonely. Choosing what each colour means helps children put feelings and memories into words, and it's a quiet, private way to stay connected.
