Fizzy feelings
What happens when feelings get shaken up and bottled in?
Shakes: 0
When something upsets us, it's like giving a fizzy drink a shake. Tap the things that have upset you lately.
What's upset you? Each one is a shake.
Why this helps
Children learn that feelings kept in get bigger, and that letting them out slowly and safely is better than exploding.
For ages 6 to 8, ages 9 to 12.
Adapted from Child Bereavement UK's activity ideas for grieving children.
Make it at home
You need: A plastic bottle of fizzy water (outside!)
- 1Talk about a time feelings built up inside.
- 2Shake the bottle a little for each worry or upset.
- 3Ask: what would happen if we opened it fast?
- 4Open the cap very slowly, a tiny bit at a time, so the fizz comes out gently.
- 5Talk about slow, safe ways to let feelings out.
